- [Instructor] I'm going to create a site, and in the past I would have to figure out what site this might be a sub-site of and go to that site to create it. But when I'm creating modern teamwork communication sites, all I need to do is get to SharePoint Home, and click Create site. And then choose between Team site and Communication site. We're going to quickly create one of each. I'm going to create a new Team site, and the purpose of this Team site is for the folks who are working on Wind installations.
So I'm going to put Wind installs. Notice that SharePoint is automatically creating a group email address that will also be used as part of the site address that strips out the spaces. I don't have to do anything extra to remove spaces from the name. It's automatically done for me. If I wanted to edit this group email address, then I could. If I use a name that already exists, for example, if I use field service. Then it says, nope, another group with that same alias already exists.
I will be notified, now I won't be notified if I created, for example, field services, that's going to be allowed. So it still behooves me to go take a look at what sites already exist in SharePoint before I create a site that might be a duplication of a site that already exists. But this is for Wind installs. And perhaps I want it to say Wind Installers, I could still edit this name of the email address to make it Windinstalls by clicking the pencil there.
But let's just call it Wind Installs. Purpose of the site, this is a team site for the Wind Installers group. Privacy settings, who can get to this site. Anyone or only members of the group? In this case we only want members to access the site, those to the folks who are actually Wind installers. We might change our mind about that later, but right now we'll leave that as private. And notice then that I can select the language, this isn't a time to check something out because you can't change this later, if you choose Arabic now, or Chinese or Finnish when you should of chosen Spanish, too bad.
Make sure the correct language is chosen. The language that's reflected here is the language overall for your site. And click Next. It says who do you want to add? You can add additional owners, every site should have more than one owner so that the one owner can go on vacation. And I can add other members here as well then. Like Rob Molina, who does Wind installs, although he's listed as a Solar installer. And I could add as many other people as I need to.
Notice that group members will receive an email welcoming them to the new site and to the new group. Because I'm creating a Team site, click Finish. My users will be added and my site will be created. And here's our new Wind Install site. Our members will be listed up at the top. Because I created it, I'm automatically following it. If I'm sitting down creating a bunch of sites for other users or other teams, then I'll want to remember to unfollow them. But it makes sense that if I created a site, I probably want to follow it.
And this looks good. Now I'd like to create another site that's a showcase for the Wind team. So I'm going to go back to SharePoint Home by clicking the SharePoint link. Create site, Communication Site. There are two different designs or I can start with a blank. The Topic showcase, use this if you have a lot of information to share. Or use simply Showcase if you want to have it be more image focused, rather than text focused.
So these are really the two choices. Topic is, there'll be lots of space for different information that you want to be able to share that is text but can be illustrated. If you really want to focus on the images then choose Showcase. And that's what I was asked to create. And I'm going to put Wind Showcase. That's the Site address, everything's available. And this is a Showcase for the Wind Installs and Wind Sales teams.
What we're currently promoting, what we're currently installing. Click Finish, and just as with the Wind installs team site, this site was created very quickly. When we created the team site, we added people by inviting them. The assumption with the Communication site is that we will use the sharing feature to be able to invite people to this site. Either as site members or as site visitors. Note that I can add users, Office 365 Groups or SharePoint security groups.
