Who is this course for?

- [Instructor] Before we get started, let's talk about who this course is created for. As you know, Office 365 is a suite of tools. SharePoint is only one of the applications in O365, although it's a biggie. What often happens these days is that the O365 administrator will delegate admin of the component tools to other people. So there'll be an exchange admin, a team admin, et cetera. This class is going to focus specifically on SharePoint admin and configuration. I will not be covering overall O365 admin except where it affects SharePoint directly. Now, a reality, it often occurs that SharePoint admin is passed onto someone who does not necessarily have a tremendous amount of technical knowledge, and often not much SharePoint knowledge or experience either. Some companies seem to feel that SharePoint is not a super high priority. I've seen many instances where responsibility for SharePoint is given to an executive assistant or admin rather than an IT professional. I have to say, I think these companies are doing themselves and their employees a disservice. Although I think that administrative tasks are simple enough to perform, having an effective and useful SharePoint strategy really requires some planning. And passing the responsibility to someone who doesn't have the experience and knowledge with SharePoint to do the advanced work, or even worse, doesn't have the authority to implement the necessary configuration, is going to make the whole job a lot harder. So, if you've been passed the responsibility of administering your company's SharePoint online presence, this class is for you. And since I know that the level of experience is going to vary, I'm going to keep my explanations as non-technical as I can. As I said, the actual work of administering SharePoint is pretty easy. The trick is why you make the choices you do. And because of that, I'll be spending extra time discussing the decision points and explaining how your selections will affect the overall SharePoint experience. Last note, you obviously need overall SharePoint administration rights for any of this to be pertinent. Verify this and talk to your O365 admin if you have questions.
