- [Instructor] SharePoint offers a robust security model which allows you to control granular access to various aspects of your SharePoint environment. When performing in a migration, ensuring that these permissions are carried over correctly is important. Modern SharePoint offers the same permission capability as classic, however there are some key differences with permission options that you need to understand before migrating. Let's start with an overview of permissions in a classic SharePoint environment. In classic SharePoint, you would go to your Site Settings and Site Permissions to manage your SharePoint permissions. Classic SharePoint permissions are managed in two ways: SharePoint groups or Active Directory groups. There are three standard SharePoint groups provided to you: owners, members, and visitors.
