Quick overview of the SharePoint admin center

- [Instructor] I have to start out again by talking about Microsoft's proclivity for changing things. In May of 2019, they changed the SharePoint admin center to this new modern view. And then they changed it again a little bit in June. Now this is how it looked while I was creating this course but I can't guarantee you that it won't have changed again before you see it. Now, this may seem overly confusing, and to be honest I think it is. I believe the issue is caused by Microsoft's eagerness to deploy new features as quickly as possible. Unfortunately because of this, they are sometimes hiding or disabling functionality that is still necessary for some users. The feedback I've been getting from Microsoft is that they intend to catch everything up at some point, but they feel it's more important to move quickly and then go back and fill in the gaps later. But that means it can be a little bit of a treasure hunt. Anyways, let's take a quick look at the admin center and see what it gives us. Front and center is some nice graphical information on sites and file usage along with system messages and overall SharePoint online service health. Now in the left navigation, there are links to get to the tools for managing sites and collections, although that's not specified, for sharing in access controls and general settings. And there is also a link that will bring you some of the classic features. Let's click that. Now some of the features on this page are going to be out of scope for this course. They're too complex or no longer necessary due to features now built into SharePoint. There are a few of them that we'll be looking at as we move along, but for now the important thing is to know where these features are. The other important thing in the admin center navigation is a link to the OneDrive admin center. Now at the time this course is being written, this is a brand new feature. It's kind of nice because it makes some of the controls for OneDrive that used to be hidden in SharePoint admin a little easier to find. We'll be examining these in depth later in the course, but for now let's go back to the SharePoint admin center. Okay, we're back. Good job.
