- [Instructor] Ransomware and spam go hand in hand as email provides a convenient way to reach victims on a global scale. Attackers send millions of spam messages laced with ransomware with the hopes of multiple victims falling for the bait. I'm at this website, spamcop.net, but there are many others that monitor and give statistics on the amount of spam that's received over a period. I'll go here to statistics and we'll scroll down. We can see total spam report volume over a day, a week, a month, or even a year. I'll select the year, and we can see the peaks, and that will correlate to massive spam campaigns. How much spam is out there? Well, we'll take a look at this website that gives statistics. I'll scroll down here, and, according to Kaspersky, about 55% of all emails sent worldwide are spam.
