OS X Server AAAA record conundrum
- [Voiceover] OS X Server's DNS server has been a part of OS X Server from the beginning because DNS has been important to the services offered in OS X Server from the beginning. But there's been a big hole for a long time. You see, OS X Server has supported Quad A records, as well as OS X has, since the beginning really. Since 10.1, almost to the very, very beginning of OS X. And it's been turned on by default in the client OS since 10.3, so why would it be that we wouldn't have a possible way in the graphic user interface of OS X Server to create Quad A records? Quad A records being, of course being the records that we need to use to do IPv6 lookups, right? In an OS X Server DNS configuration graphic user interface, there is no IPv6 or Quad A record creation capability, and because you're not supposed to manually edit the DNS BIND files in an OS X Server installation, you're really out of luck.
