Join Ed Liberman for an in-depth discussion in this video IP address planning, part of CompTIA Server+ (SK0-004) Cert Prep: 5 Networking.
- [Narrator] When it comes time…to start handing out IP addresses…to the computers on our network,…it's a good idea that you have some kind…of rhyme or reason to it.…Some kind of an IP addressing scheme…that you have in place.…You don't want to just do it all willy nilly.…Now when putting together an IP addressing scheme,…there's three questions you need to start off by asking.…Number one, how many IP addresses do we need right now?…On each one of my networks, how many computers are there?…Because if I'm going to figure out…what IP addresses I'm going to hand out,…I need to know how many I'm handing out.…
But the next question is,…how many am I going to need in the future?…What kind of growth am I expecting,…and will my scheme accommodate that growth?…And, the third question would be,…am I dealing with something that's already in place?…And maybe I'm only dealing with the growth.…Or maybe it's not working properly,…so how can I recreate a new IP addressing scheme…for my environment?…Or, am I able to build it from scratch?…
