- [Tutor] Now the other type of cable…that we use in network cabling…other than copper cabling is fiber cabling,…or fiber optic cabling as it's sometimes referred to.…Now fiber tends to be…cabling that can transmit signals faster…and longer distances than your copper cabling,…but along with it comes a higher expense…and I will tell that the expense is not always…in the physical cable itself,…but the knowhow of the installation of the cable.…
Now when dealing with fiber cable…and I say fiber or fiber optic…because as you can kind of tell from the picture here…that this uses light instead of electricity okay?…And so that's why it uses optic cables…and it comes in two different forms;…it comes in what's called single mode and multimode.…So single mode uses a single beam of light…which means that it can go very long distances…and very fast,…whereas multimode will use multiple beams of light…that will bounce all around inside the wall of the cable,…and as a result means it can only go a shorter distance…and is a little bit slower than single mode.…
