Configure record options
- Let's now talk about the various configuration options that we have in certain types of records. Different record types have different configuration options that are available to us. SRV records, for example, have an option to configure weight and priority. Priority is used to set relative importance to a service that an SRV record points to. Weight determines how often a specific SRV record is returned when it's queried. In other words, when the record is queried, is it returned once, twice, three times? That is determined by the weight of the SRV record. MX records also have an option called a preference setting. The preference setting is the equivalent of the priority setting for the SRV record. Additionally, an MX record has a TTL, or Time to Live, setting that tells the DNS server how long to keep a specific record active.
