Join Rick Schmunk for an in-depth discussion in this video Noise Oscillator, part of Learning Serum.
- [Instructor] One of the things that I constantly relearn…as I work with audio is that small amounts…of distortion and noise are often important components…of a good sound.…Some of Serum's wave tables contain…that interesting harmonic material.…But at other times, you're going to need…to create it yourself.…Serum has a noise oscillator that can help with that.…So let's check out the noise oscillator…by turning off oscillator A,…and enabling the noise oscillator.…Now we can choose a sound for the noise oscillator…by clicking on the selector here,…and in the pop-up menu, we can go in…and choose one of the presets.…
Now, a bunch of these, you're going to notice,…look like pink or white noise.…So let's hear what they sound like, so,…I'll choose the ARP pink. (short fuzzy audio)…Let's turn up the level so we can hear…that a little more. (louder short fuzzy audio)…And now, I'm going to use these arrows…to advance through the list that we were just looking at.…(intermittent pink noise)…So you can hear those are all very, very similar…
