Join Dustin Manning for an in-depth discussion in this video Resolution and quality, part of Learning FARO: Laser Scanning.
- [Narrator] The most important settings for your scanner…are going to be your resolution and quality.…Let's take a look at those parameters now.…Resolution and quality work together…to determine the scan duration,…along with whether or not we're using photography…to colorize the data.…So, let's take a look at that relationship.…On a 1/8 scan, which is what we would call…a medium resolution scan, at four times quality,…it is a five minute scan.…If we were to change the quality to a lower number,…let's take a look at how that effects the scan duration.…
Drops about almost a minute.…Now the accuracy of the data doesn't change…with the quality, so we need to make that distinction.…But this is the number of filters that are used…in the scanner to clean up the data as it goes along.…Now, if we look at a 1/5 scan,…which is where I would start for any outdoor scans,…1/5 at three times quality is about…five minutes and thirty seconds.…If we increase that quality to four times,…you'll see it starts to jump significantly.…
