This video examines the use of practing in Scala and includes instructions on how to download files which can be used during this course instruction.
- [Instructor] I have designed this course to take a hands-on approach to learning. So, it's important that you take a few minutes to download a copy of the exercise folder to your desktop so you can follow along as we take our first look at Scala. Let me show you how these files are set up. I have them here in a folder on my desktop called Exercise Files. When I open this folder, there's another folder for each movie topic that contains an exercise file. Let's drill down to see an example. If I go to chapter 01.
As you can see, there's 01_03. If I drill down there, you can see I have HelloWorld.Scala. During this series, some of these files will be used to script files that can be executed interactively using the Scala interpreter. Other programs will be compiled and executed. Some programs are project files that can be used directly in the Scala IDE. In the Exercise Files folder, when you do have a Project folder in there, and you want to bring that into your Scala IDE, we'll have to import that.
Let me show you how. If you go to File and go down to Import, from here you're going to want to open up General if it's not open yet and click on Existing Projects into Workspace then click next. Now you'll need to navigate to the folder, so I'm going to click Browse, I'm going to go to My Desktop, I'm going to choose Exercise Files and the first project folder is in Ch02, 02_03, and it's called Functions.
So, I'll click on that, let me move this up a little bit, and now I'm going to click OK. You can see that it's going to import the entire project and I'll click Finish. Over on the left hand side in my Package Explorer, you can see Functions, and if I expand that, you can see the SRC library, expand that, and here are the different files that are inside the Functions project. So, if I open it up, you can see there's Functions.SC. All of the files will be in their original state, unless specified, to correspond with the movie.
So, take a moment now to download the exercise files.
