Chris Mattia answers the question of what the Salesforce Lightning Essentials product is, in plain English, without jargon or marketing spin.
- [Instructor] Let's start off with the question of what is Salesforce Lightning Essentials? And to put it simply, it's a web-based CRM based on the Salesforce platform that uses the Lightning Experience. Okay, let me say that again but without the jargon this time. Salesforce Lightning Essentials is an entirely web-based system, so it runs in your main web browser. There is no need to install any applications onto your computer or setup any servers at your business.
Salesforce is primarily a CRM, or customer relationship management tool. And this means it's a single place for you to enter, track, and analyze all of the information about your customers, so that you can build solid, lasting relationships with each of them. Think of it as your own personal business intelligence system that is focused on your business and your customers. Now the Salesforce CRM collects and tracks information about your customers both automatically and through a painless and completely natural manual data entry process, because the workflow for the data that you enter and track is setup by you, for your specific business processes.
Now the CRM features of Salesforce allows everyone in your organization that deals with your customers, to instantly access all of the most relevant information that they need to have a successful interaction with your customer. It also includes tools for your internal teams to communicate and collaborate with each other, and keeps everyone up-to-date on those critical path tasks and priorities. Now Lightning refers to the user interface and user experience that you and your company will use inside of Salesforce.
Now this is a relatively recent shift for the Salesforce platform, so many existing Salesforce customers are used to dealing with what is now referred to as the classic view of Salesforce. But Salesforce Lightning Essentials will start you off using the Lightning Experience or the Lightning UI, so if you're new to Salesforce then you really don't need to go back and worry about the classic views. Just move forward using Lightning. Now the Essentials portion of the product name refers to the essential CRM features that are needed for most small businesses to get started.
It's the Salesforce level of licensing that you're paying for. Now to see what features are currently available with the Salesforce Essentials license, go to salesforce.com and under the products menu, select pricing. Then scroll down and look for the compare additions feature, and it's a good idea to click the expand all button, it's generally right around here. This'll open up the outline so you can clearly see what features are currently available, as these may change over time.
Now the thing to keep in mind with the Essentials product is that this is the first tier for getting started on the Salesforce platform and it is built on the Salesforce platform itself. Now this is a really big deal because it now gives a relatively low cost entry point for small businesses to get started using Salesforce, and there's now a clear upgrade path for us into the additional features of the platform that we can add-on as we need to, with no need to go through a painful data migration process as other entry points have often required.
