It's a big step, but it can be done in your own timeframe. For instance, some exam takers like to schedule the exam before they begin studying in order to have a solid date in their mind. Others prefer to get comfortable with the Salesforce Administration and all the material covered by the exam before putting a date on the calendar. Whatever works best for you is fine.
