Learn how to create accounts within Salesforce. Discover the importance of distinguishing accounts versus contacts in Salesforce. Accounts are companies where a salesperson does business and contacts are the people inside those businesses.
- [Instructor] In this video, we are going to cover accounts. Accounts are companies that you are doing business with and contacts are the people who work for them. So let's look at the Accounts area. We're going to navigate over to the Accounts area here. And just click on Accounts. Right here, you can see all of the recently viewed accounts. But you can also change your view and look at all accounts. My accounts. New last week. You have several other options here. So you can look at My Accounts. And, let's look at Recently Viewed.
Now, let's select a specific account. I'm going to look at Edge Communications. And you'll see I have quite a bit of information here. I have the type of customer they are. Their website. The account owner. Their industry. You'll see we already know there are no potential duplicates of this account. That's really helpful because that's a very very common problem in Salesforce. That there are duplicate accounts created. So we know there are no duplicates. We can see the contacts here.
We can see several opportunities that were past opportunities that are won and some that are pending. We see a few cases here. And some related contacts and notes in this account. On the right hand side, we can see Next Steps. And then, if we click into Details we'll just see a lot more detail about this account. So, we can see their information, they're a public company. The number of employees. Annual revenue. So there's quite a bit of information in this account.
And then you can even see some news the latest news here. And you'll see Twitter is connected here. If there was any information here it would show up in that area. So let's go back to this area. Now if I wanted to transfer this account I would click here. Because I am the current account owner. I can click here and change the person. So it's going to show some other people on my team. Now, this often needs the approval of a Salesforce Administrator.
And this is very common in Salesforce because it's very common that a salesperson will need to transfer an account to another salesperson maybe because they're moving roles, or, there's been some reorganization. So that's pretty common. So you just want to find out what the flow is and what that process is in your company. So I'm going to click Cancel. Now, if I want to create a new account I'm going to go right up here to New Account. And, you'll see the only thing required which there's a red asterisk, is the account name.
So I'm going to say Sample New Account. You can put a parent account if there is a parent account for this. Then you'll see some of the frequent companies are popping up here. You can put in an account number, if you have one. An account type. Right here there's a drop down. And you have a lit of different options here. You can rate it, you can put their phone number. The only thing that's required for me is the name. But you'll see, this can be customized. And it's pretty common of your administrator to make other areas also required.
And it really depends on what your company tracks and what they want to look at. But for now, I'm just going to save this account. So it gives me some validation. The account sample, New Account, was created. And you'll see, it shows up right here. So, that's how you create a new account. Now, the one thing that you'll notice you didn't see, in creating that account, was the email address. And the reason you don't see that is because an email address is associated with a contact. So you'll see right here, I have contact zero.
And if I wanted to add a contact to this account I would just add that right in here, and that would show up just the way that contacts showed up in my Edge Communications account. So if we want to delete an account, for example, we could just go here. And we could click Delete. And Salesforce will always do some kind of verification to validate you really do want to delete an account. I'm going to click Delete here. And, it says right up here, that our account was deleted.
So, that's an overview of the Accounts area and how to create, edit, and delete accounts.
