Join Adam Wilbert for an in-depth discussion in this video Using SSMS to restore a database, part of Database Foundations: Core Concepts.
- So right now, this instance of SQL Server…only has the system databases.…We don't have any user databases created.…Let's go ahead and add one from our exercise files.…I'm going to collapse this back down…to clean up my screen a little bit…and then we'll right click on Databases…and we'll choose Restore Database.…This will allow us to restore a database…from a backup file.…On the Restore Databases stream,…if we've previously established some backups…within this instance of SQL Server,…we would find them on this drop down list here…but I don't have any at the moment.…Instead what I need to do is change the Source to Device.…
That'll allow me to choose a backup file…that's on my current hard drive.…On the far right, I'll press this button here…with the ellipses or the three dots to choose the file…and that'll pull up a window…that says Select Backup Devices.…We can either choose to pull a backup…from a File or a URL.…I'm going to leave it on file.…And we'll press add to find the backup file.…Now, that's going to open up this window here…
