This video is a demonstration of reviewing error logs in Microsoft SQL Server 2016.
- [Narrator] In this section we're going to look…at reviewing the SQL Server logs.…In a troubleshooting situation I always recommend…the first step to be look at the logs.…Obviously we can't 100% solve a problem…just by reading the logs but we certainly…can get a better understanding about what…the problem is exactly by looking at the logs.…So here in Object Explorer I'll open up…the Management section, and then there's…a section for SQL Server Logs.…I'll open that up and I'll double-click on one of them.…
That'll open up the Log File Viewer,…and that shows me a sequential list…of all the items in the log.…I have some tools to work with this log.…The most common one I do is Filter,…which is a button near the top that has…an icon that looks like a funnel.…When we click on Filter we see we can filter…for log entries created by a certain user,…certain computer, a certain time frame,…or most commonly, a key word in the message text.…So I'll search for DemoDB02,…and that should filter the log down…to only events dealing with that database.…
