- [Instructor] Prior to starting the installation of your SQL server, you should give consideration to the various options that are available. Proper planning is crucial to ensure that you're secure and you have a properly operating instance of SQL server. So in this lesson, we'll introduce you to the main considerations that will help you make your SQL server installation go much more smoothly. SQL Server works with something known as an instance, so each installation of SQL Server is considered an instance. You can install it multiple times on the same computer and SQL Server requires you to separate each one of the installations, either using a name instance or by setting it as a default instance. Now the important thing to note here is that you can only have one default instance of SQL Server installed, and every other instance that you install after that must be named.
