- [Instructor] Data warehouses can be expensive to create and manage since they can grow very large and easily consume large amounts of compute resources. Before you go out and purchase a high-end database server, you should really consider the benefits of a cloud-hosted data warehouse. Microsoft's offering, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, can be a cost-effective solution for businesses with a wide range of needs. Azure SQL Data Warehouse uses the same SQL Server technologies that you would use on your own on-premises servers. The difference is that it runs on Microsoft's hardware in the Azure cloud platform rather than on hardware that you've had to purchase yourself. There a number of advantages to this arrangement, but the primary one is that you only pay for resources that your data warehouse actually uses, and those resource allocations can scale up and down as needed to match your workloads.
