Create a dynamic KPI
- If you use a query to pull data from a database then your KPIs can update automatically. In order to create a dynamic KPI that displays up-to-date information, you first need to create a data set. So I'm going to start here from the portal and go to new and choose data set. I'll used the shared Wide World Importers data source and press create. And then rather than pull information out of the tables from the database, I'm going to switch over to edit as text and paste in a query that I have copied on my clipboard. You can find a copy of this in the exercise files for the course. I'll run the query to see the results in the bottom window. And this query is summing the sales for each month in 2016. It also creates two additional columns that aren't present in the database, but they're each generating some static numbers that we can use in our KPI.
