- [Instructor] One of the most important things to look out for when you're working with data is the presence of outliers because these extreme scores that are far away from the rest can throw off so many of the other procedures that we do. Now, it turns out there are many different ways of working with outliers, but one that sometimes comes in handy is to rank. You end up with a uniform distribution which, while it's still not normal, is better than what you had previously. And fortunately, SPSS gives you many different ways of ranking variables. So I want to start this by taking a look at some of the Google Correlate data. These are these 12 different search terms where we get the relative popularity of each one on a state by state basis.
