Recoding with Visual Binning
- [Instructor] One of the interesting new developments in SPSS is a function called visual binning and what it is is a way of breaking up a variable into different categories. Say for instance, you're doing quartiles. But visual binning actually lets you do it visually if you want. Let's go here to Transform and we'll come down to Visual Binning which may or may not be there depending on which version of SPSS you have. I'll click on that and it asks me which variables I want to bin. Now, I'm going to do just one right now. And based on our earlier analysis, we know that this variable Privacy, that's gc06, is a little unusual. It's got outliers on both ends and it's kind of pinched in in the middle. So I'm going to select that variable and then hit Continue. And when you open this, it fills in with the current variable and its label and then it gives you a histogram right here of what the variable looks like…
