Logistic regression

- [Instructor] One of the curious ways that research fields differ is by whether they generally pay more attention to quantitative outcomes, so if you're in economics you want to be able to predict the GPD, or if you're in psychology, you want to be able to predict people's average scores on the Beck Depression Inventory. On the other hand, other fields are much more interested in a dichotomous outcome, whether a person does or does not get sick, whether they do or do not purchase a particular item, and you can use linear regression for both of these but you can't use the same kind. If you have a dichotomous outcome, you need to use a different version that's generally called logistic regression. This works the same way by specifying your outcome variable, specifying your predictors, but the math that goes into it's different and the way it displays the results is adapted to this binary, or dichotomous outcome.
