Dummy coding with the R extension

- [Instructor] SPSS offers a cool shortcut for generating dummy codes. However, there's a little bit of trick to how to use this shortcut and others like it. It is a so-called programmability extension, so we can go up to the extensions, and down to the extension hub. It's gonna send us to the internet, and what we're gonna search for is just dummy. Just the first word should be sufficient, and there it is. So we're gonna go ahead and click on get extension, and okay. I'm gonna accept the terms and click on finish. Great, and it says it's been installed, so let's see if we can't find it there. Minimize that, and go to transform, and sure enough, it is now there. That symbol to the left does not specifically mean create dummy variables. The blue plus, rather, means that that's an extension. So we could install other extensions, and they would all have that symbol of the blue plus. And we're gonna go ahead and create dummy variables for jobcat, which is one of our nominal variables.
