- [Instructor] We're going to talk about an important concept that comes from the world of predictive analytics. When you're using an exploratory technique, you really need some very strong, concrete evidence that the model that you've built is going to work on unseen data. And the way that we do that, when we're using an exploratory technique, techniques that you might hear called data mining or, again, predictive analytics, we use a somewhat different approach than we do in regular statistics. So if you've learned statistics in an academic setting, then this concept might be new to you. But if you've done machine learning or neural networks or those kinds of things, you almost certainly have encountered this. So, again, it's called train test partitioning or holdout partition.
