- [Instructor] It is terribly important to check your variables for normality visually. I always find that to be the most compelling. However, there's also a formal assumptions check within SPSS to check for normality. It's not specific to regression by the way, there might be all kinds of reasons why you might check for normality so it's not found in the regression menu but it's very useful for this purpose. So we're going to go to Analyze, Descriptive Statistics, Explore, but we're going to go to Plots and we're going to check normality plots with tests, that's going to give us our Lavines test. So we're going to click on Continue. Sense we're only interested in the plots at the moment we can click Plots and that will prevent a lot of output that's unnecessary to (mumbles) we'll go ahead and click on OK. And let's stop at Tests of Normality, right click I'm going to put it in its own window so we can see it more clearly. And of course it's very important to be comfortable…
