What is level of measurement?
- [Narrator] Level of measurement is a very important statistical concept. It's discussed throughout statistics, so it's certainly not unique to CHAID, nor is it unique to Modeler. We have to talk about level of measurement because the type node settings and the type node declarations we make have a direct impact on how CHAID is going to grow. Level of measurement, or sometimes called scale of measure, was developed by a psychologist named Stanley Smith Stevens. And you'll notice listed here the fourfold typology, nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio. In the type node, we're going to be talking about nominal, ordinal and scale. Scale simply is both interval and ratio. I'm going to open the source and type node stream, found in the exercise files, and I'm going to look inside the type node.
