System options, units, and templates
- SolidWorks has a bunch of different system options that allow us to change the units we're working in, the amount of decimal places we see, and a lot more. The very easiest one to look at is down here on the bottom right-hand corner is the IPS, or we can choose any other basic unit system that you'd like to be working in. So, for instance, I can quickly change to millimeter, gram, second, and just that easily all my sketches will now be in millimeters as my base unit. So, if I click under the sketch here, open it up, you can see all the values in there are now based upon millimeters. Exit back out of the sketch, change here from millimeters back to inches, go back to that same sketch, and you can see, now they're back in inches. So, that's your default unit system. Up here at the top, there's a little gear, it's Options. In there, I can change a bunch of System Options, but I can also change Document Properties. So, I can change the way I add Annotations, I can change Dimensions…
