Saving, renaming, and managing files

It's important to understand how the SOLIDWORKS File Structure works. Basically, we're going to have top level assemblies, which will then have individual parts, like part one and part two. Now part one and part two can each have their own drawings, so this drawing number three would be of part number one, and drawing four would be of part number two. Now you can also have sub assemblies. A sub assembly would be an assembly inside of another assembly; And that sub assembly can have individual parts as well, and then drawings directly below that. We can also have individual drawings of that sub assembly, and then multiple sub assemblies below that one. So it can get pretty complicated, and what this is called is the design tree. Now when you save files, you have to remember they're linked together. An assembly is made up of individual parts, and when you save that assembly, it saves the path to each one of those parts, by name. So if you were to change the name of an individual part…
