Running the Compare utility

- [Instructor] One of the biggest parts of the SolidWorks Utilities is being able to use the compare tool to compare things like documents, geometry, and features. Here, we have two models that are pretty similar, but I don't know what all the changes have been made between the two or if there have been any failures or anything like that that I just don't know about. It could take me a while to go through and check every single item on the feature tree on each of these and do a compare and contrast, so I'm going to use the compare tool instead. So let's go up to tools, compare, and you can see here that we have a few options. So there's compare documents, compare features, compare geometry, and we also have a report manager down below. I'm going to go up to the top and click on compare documents right here. Here you see that we have two spots for the reference document and the modified document. Because I have them both open right now, they come here on this list of the dropdown. So I'm going to select the first one, select the second one. Then down below, you can see that we're going to select what we're going to compare, so we can compare the document properties. If we have PDM vault connected, we can check in that, as well. We can check the features, the geometry. We're going to want to align the parts to make sure that we're referencing them correctly and if we had bills of materials associated with them for assemblies, for example, if we were comparing two assemblies and not two parts, we could examine those, as well. Before we run this, we just want to make sure we've got all of our settings correct, so now we go ahead and click go, and we'll see what the results are and we will look at those results in the next video.
