In this lesson, learn about mounted holes and bosses, and how to use the Mounting Boss feature in SOLIDWORKS.
- [Instructor] Mounting bosses are commonly used…in plastic parts or metal castings for assembly purposes.…So, in this case for example,…if we wanted to maybe assemble a top and the bottom halfs…of our robotic arm here…we could use mounting bosses and screws or bolts…to accomplish this.…So if I go to the Insert dropdown here.…Fastening Features,…here I have a number of tools or commands…that are very useful, again, for plastics designs…and metal casting designs.…
So first one in the list being the Mounting Boss.…Before we jump into that however,…we might want to define a position for it.…So to define our mounting boss position,…we can do a number of things.…We can just draw a point or a circle…wherever we'd like it to be located.…So again, maybe I'll use this Plane One I created earlier.…Just going to create a sketch here…and maybe jump normal to that plane.…And I'm just going to draw, sketch out a circle here,…maybe somewhere about here.…
Again, I'm just kind of playing around…with some dimensions…and kind of throwing these features…
