In this video, check out the new tool to hide faces of your model for easier mates.
- [Instructor] Another cool feature for SOLIDWORKS 2018 is the ability to temporarily hide a face when you're in the mate command. Let me go ahead and turn on the mate command over here. And now, notice over here anything I highlight over, don't actually click on it, but just highlight over a face and hit Alt on your keyboard, and notice it'll actually remove that face from your model. In fact, you can come over here and just kind of keep highlighting over faces and literally just start removing them from your model pretty easily. So you can actually see through what's going on here. You can remove it from multiple pieces as well.
You can kind of really get in and see everything you want to see just by kind of hovering over a face, hitting Alt, and it will just literally remove that face from your model once you've then selected a couple of faces. In this case here, I'm going to go ahead and choose the outside surface here. Notice all of a sudden the faces all come back. So if you need to, you can of course remove them again. And in this case I want to find this little hole here, click on that, slides together, and then click on OK. And now we've made that mate successfully. Now, this is great if you have a lot of components and you're trying to figure out how to mate these together and you can't spin it around to really see those individual faces.
All you got to do is hit that Alt key, remove a couple of faces that are in the way, and quickly mate those components together.
