Basic GD&T symbols: Profile
- [Instructor] Profiles are outlines of part features. Those features can be surfaces, or shapes consisting of a single geometry, or the intersection of multiple geometric elements. Profile tolerances control how much those outlines can deviate in size, shape, orientation, or location, from the perfect geometry. A line-profile control defines how much a single line or curve is allowed to deviate from the desired form. This control is used on two-dimensional curves, and applied to the cross-section of a part. For example, the cross-sectional tolerance of an airplane wing, or an aluminum extrusion, can be controlled with the line-profile control. The surface-profile control can be applied to any three-dimensional surface of a given shape. It constrains how far the points on that surface can deviate from the actual true surface, as defined in the CAD program.
