Now that you've got SMART Notebook 11.3 open, let's talk about the toolbars. Across the top of the window, you see the SMART Notebook menu bar. These buttons have a myriad of options for you to explore. Below the menu bar are three toolbars, referred to as the Actions toolbar, or the Actions panel, the Tools panel, and then if I select a tool in the Tools panel, the third panel appears and that's the Contextual Panel.
Generally speaking, the Actions panel is used to edit and insert. The Tools panel is used to create objects, and the Contextual panel is used to modify objects. Along the right hand side of the screen, you'll see my side tabs. The tabs include the Page Sorter tab, the Gallery tab, the Attachments tab, the Properties tab and the Add-on's tab. Now you'll notice that I have an additional tab called the SMART Response tab and that's something that I've added on to my SMART Notebook.
If you click the Page Sorter tab, you'll see that a thumbnail of each page appears and within this tab, you can navigate to different pages and you can reorder the pages. If you click on the Gallery tab, this is the Gallery tab, you, you access collections of custom pages, Clip Art, flash-created animations and videos, all of which you can add to your SMART Notebook pages. If you select the Attachments tab, and that's signified by the paperclip you have, you have the option of adding hyperlinks or documents to your SMART Notebook file.
Lastly, if you select the Properties tab, and this is the Properties tab right here, you have the ability to format shapes, objects and text. These tabs can be left open or, by selecting the Auto-hide checbox in the lower corner, a touch on the screen will cause the tab to retract. So I'm going to go over to my Selector tool, and notice that when I touch on the screen, phloop, the tab has retracted. But maybe, I don't want the tab to retract.
So when I'm creating my files, usually during my planning period, I deselect the Auto-hide button, so that I can see the side tabs extended. So I will deselect this button, and now when I touch on the screen or add things to the screen, I can still have the side tabs open. This is especially helpful when I'm creating content that I can see which page I'm on and what's the next page in my presentation file. But, when I'm teaching, I'll want to maximize my real estate and have the side tabs retract.
So for teaching, I'm going to go ahead and select that Auto-hide button, touch anywhere on my screen and have the side tabs retract. Note also that you have navigation arrows which take you from page to page at the top in the Actions panel. So way over here you have an arrow that'll take you forward a page in your slideshow, and a page back in your slideshow and so on and so forth. These are navigation arrows. And you also have an add a page and delete a page button. You also have these same tools located below your side tab, beside your, below your side tabs down below.
So there's your forward arrow, your back arrow, your add a page, and your delete a page. Depending on which side of your SMART board you'd prefer to stand on, you can move the side tabs to the opposite side. So, if you have furniture on one side of your SMART Board that will, that will prompt you to stand on the other side well, if you're standing on the other side, you're going to want your side tabs over closer to you. So this double-headed arrow right here shoots my side tabs to the other side. And so, but I'm currently standing on the left-hand side of my smart board so I'm going to go ahead and hit those double arrows and send my side tabs back closest to me.
In addition, if you're vertically challenged, like me, and maybe your SMART Board is mounted pretty high and it's really difficult to reach all the tools at the top of your SMART Notebook, well, on top of your SMART Board, pardon me, then maybe you want to pop those tools down to the bottom of your SMART Board. And so you will see up here at the top of my SMART Notebook file, you'll see the double-headed arrow there, and when I click on that double-headed arrow, all the tools that were formerly at the top of my SMART Notebook page are now located at the bottom.
This is particularly helpful when you're working with little children and those little children they can't reach the tools and maybe you want them to reach the tools and so you would pop those tools down at the bottom. Or, if you prefer, I am going to go ahead and show that again. I'm touching the double-headed arrow and that pops my tools back up to the top. I'm happy to have given you an overview of the Menu bar, the Actions panel, the Tools panel, the Contextual panel, and the side tabs. We will be delving further into each of these tabs in the subsequent movies.
