How does Experience API differ from SCORM?
- So what does the new Tin Can or Experience API have to offer that SCORM doesn't? Why should it become the new standard for elearning replacing SCORM? Well, firstly, SCORM is limited to elearning courses or learning management systems while the Experience API is not. As a standard, Tin Can or Experience API describes how you can interface any software application with any system that stores and reports on learning data such as a learning management system but also systems like an LRS for example, which is a learning record store. We'll explore the LRS in more detail in the next movie. Now the way xAPI operates is based on activity streams, which is a model that uses software to track what people are actually doing. We see this model being used in social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter and even Google+ which is where the idea actually came from. So with the Experience API, you can track activities that people are doing on their computer like performing work-related tasks…
