- [Instructor] We've been doing a lot of regression. But I have not yet brought up the topic of interactions. So, let's discuss those now. In public health school, I was actually taught an extra step you are supposed to do at the end of fitting your stepwise selection final model. You were supposed to keep your final model and then try to fit an additional interaction model. Please notice that another term for interaction is effect modification but they mean exactly the same thing in public health. So, what my professors meant was once you have your final model, you are supposed to try a model with more covariants in it. Actually they are called interaction terms because they are not single covariants, they are actually little equations. See on the slide. The model statement with no interaction just has DIABFLAG and MALE in it but in the with interaction example, DIABFLAG and MALE are considered lower level terms and this little equation of DIABFLAG times MALE is the higher level…
