Single surfaces with openings look unfinished or are hard to visually evaluate. Using the command Surface > Extrude Curve > Normal, the new surface edge gives the opening an apparent depth.
- [Instructor] Next up, we take a look at…faking edge thickness.…So why do you want to fake a material thickness?…I'm glad you asked.…This works really nicely when you're partially complete,…and want to make the design look more finished…for review purposes.…Okay, going to be faking edge thickness in a couple of areas.…Since we're going to be faking the edge thickness on this hull,…I do want to make sure it's a single piece,…and not joined to anything else.…I can do that by selecting it and looking around,…or I can go over to the properties…and just make sure it's not a polysurface.…
It says open surface, which is useful,…but if I click on something like this internal bulkhead,…you can see that it has a lot of pieces,…so the properties will say it's an open polysurface.…That means more than one piece.…So it's a great way to make sure…something doesn't have other stuff joined to it.…This'll go a lot smoother.…Okay, let's start with this back.…This is an interesting condition…that you'll run into fairly often,…and it's not obvious from looking at it,…
