Sketching out the lines of the shank: Oval stone ring

- [Voiceover] And now we're going to take a look at sketching out the lines for the shank. I'm going to go now and select just the Finger Size Guide, and I'm going to use the middle mouse to lock everything else in our scene. I'm going to maximize the front view, and let's get started. The first thing I want to establish is the thickness on the side and also at the bottom of our ring. What I usually do is I go to the Line tool, and this is probably the most important part of any design for a ring, is the distance between one finger to the other finger. A lot of people will design rings with a width on the side of 5 millimeters. That is very uncomfortable for a everyday ring. But if you're making a ring that's going to be worn every day, you're going to stick with a very low number, and the number I like to use is somewhere between 2 1/2 and 4 millimeters. So for the purpose of this ring, we're going to keep it at 3 millimeters so it's nice and comfortable when you're wearing it. And…
