jean will now go through the steps of shelling out the shank. he will use the offset surface command to give the interior. the purpose of sheling out the shank part is to reduce the weight for the metal when going into production.
- [Voiceover] We're gonna take a look now…at shelling out our shank to our model.…The purpose of shelling out the shank in our model is…when you are kessing out this design…in precious metal like platinum or gold,…it does make sense to take out as much metal…as possible so you can reduce the price or the weight.…So to begin, I'm gonna go ahead…and select the shank here, and we're gonna…middle mouse over to the invert selection icon…so we can hide everything else.…I'm gonna go over to the explode icon,…and when you right click, it gives you…the option to extract your surfaces.…
So I'm gonna go to the inside surface here,…and left click, and when you're ready,…just hit right click so it's separated from the shank.…I wanna go ahead now and lock it…by typing it in or using control W…to quickly lock it.…You can still see it's visible,…but it's locked.…The next thing I'm gonna do is…take the surface, and we need to offset this…inside about a millimeter.…And again, the same purpose as the bezel.…We need to have enough thickness…
