Downloading and installing Rhino for Mac

- [Instructor] Let's take a look at downloading and installing Rhino 6 for Mac. The first step is to launch a web browser and navigate to Rhino3d.com/mac. You can see I'm here already. So I'll go ahead and click on the download link, and this takes me to the downloads page. Notice here we have two columns. On the left is downloads for Windows, and obviously that's not what we're interested in today. So let's look over here on the right, where we have stuff for Mac. Just as a quick aside, in addition to the full version of Rhino for Mac, there's also an iOS app that lets you view Rhino files on your iPad or your iPhone, as well as a few different versions of Rhino that account for different plugins. What we really want though, is this complete install for Mac. Basically have two different options here. First is the evaluation version, and this links to a fully-functional free version of Rhino with a license that lasts for 90 days, or we can choose the latest version, and this requires a full license key. Now, since I have a full license key, that's the version I'm picking, but if you just want to try Rhino, go ahead and click on the evaluation. The install process is almost exactly the same. The two softwares are completely identical, with the one difference being that the evaluation version only lasts for 90 days. So I'll click on the version I'd like, and I'll be prompted to enter an email address. Go ahead and click next. Now, in my case, since I'm downloading the full license key version, I'm just given a direct download link. If you're signing up for the evaluation version, you'll actually be emailed a download link along with a license key to type into the installer. So I've actually already downloaded this. So I'll hide my browser, and go to my downloads folder. So here I can see a disc image with Rhino and then the version number that we're installing. So I'll go ahead and double-click to open that. And here we have our Rhino installer, and this couldn't be simpler. All we need to do is click and drag this Rhinoceros app onto our applications folder, and this will copy Rhino to our computer. Okay, we've finished copying, so I'll go ahead and close out of the installer, and now if we navigate to our applications folder, we should be able to see the version of Rhinoceros that's on our computer. I'll go ahead and double-click to launch and close out of my finder window so we can see what's up with Rhino. Now, since this is the first time I'm opening Rhino, OSX is warning me that Rhinoceros is an application that I downloaded from the internet, and it's just making sure that I actually want to open it. And I do, so I'll go ahead and click open here. And since this is the very first time we're running Rhino, we'll see this license dialogue. And here I have an option to log in, enter a license key, use the Zoo, which is a network license server option, or buy a license key. Whether you're installing the evaluation version or the full license version, you'll click on the enter your license key option. And just go ahead and paste in the license key that was emailed to you. Click continue, and then we get to choose whether we want to add this license to our Rhino account or only use it standalone on this computer. This is totally up to you, and there's a link here that can help you decide. I'm going to add this to my Rhino account, so I'll click on that option. This brings me back to a browser, where through my Rhino 3D account, I just need to give some permissions to McNeel to manage my license over the internet. And finally, you may be prompted for an admin password on your computer. Okay, I'll go ahead and hide my browser again, and here we are with the Rhino start window. So this tells me that we're all installed and we're ready to go, and now we know the most important steps of downloading and installing Rhino so that we can get ready to model.
