Designing curtain walls
- The last element we will design is our curtain wall. If you're not familiar, a curtain wall is mostly glass inside of a repeating metal framework. This includes sections that are both clear, which are your windows, and are totally opaque, called the spandrels. This is very common with many skyscrapers. Other curtain walls can be all clear, like in this example and in our building. Finally, curtain walls are typically not load-bearing, so we do need them to follow nearby structure for support. I'm going to build a full set of curtain walls, using this little outbuilding I've nicknamed the Back Porch. So let's zoom in here. I've got a really cool strategy to share. I'm just going to build a mullion on each side of the opening, and then measure the distance from center to center. That number can be used to equally space all the remaining mullions in between.
