Using general symbols

- [Voiceover] All sorts of symbols are used in construction documents. In Revit, symbols fall into two basic categories. There's tags, and there's symbols. A tag will be associated to a model element, And will report information from that host element directly in the tag. It does this with the labels that are built in to that tag. And we've seen some examples of this already. A symbol is a standalone symbol. It's simply a graphic, and it's an item that has no association to model elements. So it could be a north arrow or a bar scale, or some other graphic that you want to reuse in projects. In this movie, we'll load in some standard symbols into our template and we'll learn how to create custom symbols, or some of the issues involved with creating custom symbols. So the first thing I want to cover is what I like to call some terminology gymnastics. The tool that we use to place items that we're talking about in this movie is called the symbol tool.
