Using filled and masking regions
- [Instructor] In this video, I want to talk about regions. Now Revit has two types of regions, a filled region and a masking region. Filled regions have a surface pattern with some sort of a hatch pattern applied to it and a masking region is just solid white, so it's used to cover up other geometry that's underneath it. so let's start with a masking region and we're going to contrast that to the behavior that we see here with the line work that I already have. These are just detail lines. So notice that here, each of the separate edges of this hexagon are separate, independent detail lines and there is no surface to that shape. And even though the line edges can potentially cover one another, the shape itself does not cover anything. So let's go to annotate, and on the region dropdown, I'll choose masking region. Now this takes me into sketch mode and I could tell that because the ribbon changes to the greenish color and I now have the presence of the mode panel or red X to cancel…
