Using RVT files and version compatibility

- [Instructor] For those of you that work with Revit on a day to day basis, you'll be fully aware that Revit is not backwards compatible like a lot of other Autodesk products. Now what that means is is if you're working in say the latest version of Revit, Revit 2020, and you create an RVT file, like we've got on the screen in front of us, that means that any older versions of Revit cannot read that Revit 2020 file. So even if you went back to say Revit 2019, just the previous version, you would not be able to read that Revit 2020 RVT file. So for that reason, all of this course will be done in Revit 2019. So what that means is the file that you download from the library will be compatible with Revit 2019 and also Revit 2020 because when you open it up in Revit 2020, it will automatically upgrade the RVT file to the 2020 version. As soon as you do a save or a save as, that 2020 version will be saved and that particular RVT file can then only be read by Revit 2020. Please be aware of that when you're working on this particular course. You can only use Revit 2019 or Revit 2020 to use the exercise files that come with the videos.
