- [Instructor] I had a client ask me recently about getting grids to display in certain elevation views. They were having some trouble with that and wanted my advice. And so I thought it would be good for us this week to talk about that issue and actually a little more generally to talk about datum elements all together, because the rules that apply to grids and the way they display also apply to reference planes and levels, all three datum elements. So the rule is really quite simple. If you want a datum element to display in orthographic view it must be perpendicular to the viewing plane of that view, period. So that's the way that datum elements are designed. Now I'm looking at a floor plan right now and I'm seeing four grids and if you imagined that all of these were sheets of paper these two are vertical sheets of paper, one and two are standing upright on the ground and we're seeing those because their z-axis…
