Starting a project

- [Instructor] I'm doing these exercises in Revit 2019. If you happen to have Revit 2020 by the time that you watch this video, that's okay. You'll also be able to go through these exercises in Revit 2020, though your interface may look slightly different depending on which features they decided to add to the software. Here on the opening screen, I'm going to go to either Open or to New. In this case, though, I'm just going to select on New to create a new project. You'll have the option here where it says Template file. Now, if you were just working on your own projects, you could choose any of these different templates, but for the projects that we're going to be doing, I'm going to select on the Browse button. Typically, since this is a residential project, but I also want to point out that inside of your Exercise Files folder, and in my case I'm keeping that on my desktop. And I'll look for my Exercise Files. You can see that we have a series of folders here, and inside of the first folder, which I'll just call the chapter one folder, One of the files you'll have available is this Residential-Default file. That's the file that we'll be using for this project. So after selecting on it, click on Open. Notice how it now shows up here as the template file that you'll be using. And, click on OK. Give it a few seconds to process and then it'll open up your new project environment. After this project environment has been open, we can see over here, in this case on the left hand side under my Project Browser, we have a variety of different floor plans, which are already available to us. But what I plan on doing is, underneath Elevations, is double-clicking here where we have the South elevation. And just pointing out that, if we zoom in by just spinning the wheel on our mouse, that we can see that we already have a variety of floors set up for us including a Roof, a Second Floor, a First Floor, where your top of Foundation will be, as well as Basement and your various Footing locations. Now, technically, these aren't actually floors. What we're really looking at are different project levels, and those are just prebuilt into this template. In the next exercise, we'll make adjustments to these levels In the next exercise, we'll make adjustments to these levels so that we can use them for our building project. so that we can use them for our building project.
