- I'm ready to begin building my Arch Family now, now that we have a basic understanding of how the massing environment works and some of the features we're going to take advantage of. So I'm going to go to New Family, scroll down and locate the generic model Adaptive Family template. If you want to work in metric you want the metric generic model adaptive, and then I'll click open. Now because I'm working in the Imperial file, I am going to go to Manage, and Project Units and set the length units to decimal inches at three decimal places and click ok. This is just something that we've done a few other times before just to kind of diminish the importance of the units and just allow us to work in strictly decimal numbers. Now the built in template here is actually rather large, so if I went to create and just sort of drew a circle here, you're going to see that it's a really large dimension there.
