Linking architecture

- I like to start with the fact that we need to deal with the architect. There's nothing wrong with the architect. In fact, I like architects, but we do need to know what they're doing in terms of building footprint. This is where linking comes in handy. So to get started, we're gonna create a brand new structural model. To do that, got to Revit, and simply click on Structural Template. Now that we're in the Structural Template, we can bring in the architectural underlay. To do that, let's go to the insert tab, then let's go to Link, Revit. Browse to where you're keeping your exercise files. Select the architectural model, but pause for one second. The only real things we need to remember here is the positioning. We always want to go Auto--Origin to Origin. With Positioning, Auto--Origin to Origin set, let's click open. Now, the next most important thing we need to do is pin the model down, so we don't inadvertently move it. Hover over the architectural model and select it. On the modified panel, click the Pin button. The next thing I'd like to do is see a few more of the architectural components. To do that in our properties, let's scroll down in our structural plan 'til we find Discipline. Instead of Structural, I'd like to change that to Coordination. On our View Control Toolbar, down here at the bottom, let's make sure our detail level is set to fine. One more thing I'd like to do is go to our settings. If you go to manage, go to additional settings, let's select a half-tone underlay. For the underlay, let's make the weight one. We'll apply a half-tone, but let's set the brightness to 80%. Now let's click OK. One more item, select your link. In the Properties, click Edit Type. Let's make sure that Room Bounding is turned on. The Reference Type always wants to be an overlay. For Phase Mapping, let's click edit. Let's make sure Existing is matched with Existing, and New Construction is equivalent to New Construction. Click OK, let's click OK. Now let's save our project somewhere that makes sense to you. I'm gonna go ahead and make my chapter one folder and save it there. I'm gonna call it Structural. One last thing I like to do is click on the Options button. For my maximum number of backups, I like to only keep one. Let's click OK, now let's click Save. Now, with the architectural model linked in, we can get started.
