Join Eric Wing for an in-depth discussion in this video Creating in-place stepped footing families, part of Revit: Structural Families.
[Voiceover] - Sometimes we need to…create a family,…using the surrounding geometry…available to us in the model.…Parametric families are nice,…but sometimes we don't really need parameters,…we just need it to look right.…In-place families are perfect for that.…An in-place families model,…just like a family we would make…using as a template,…only we are in the actual model.…So, let's get started by creating a new project,…using a structural template.…So under Projects,…let's click on Structural Template.…Let's go down to Level 1,…and on the Structure tab,…let's click the Wall button,…we'll hit the drop down,…let's select Foundation 12 inch Concrete.…
Unfortunately we can't change…the depth to height,…so we'll draw it in,…then we'll fix it in elevation.…So what I want to do is…I want to pick a point from…here to here,…I'm going to hit Escape a couple of times,…let's go to an elevation of this wall,…select it,…the Base Constraint's Level 1,…the Top Constraint will be Level 2,…and the Base Offset will be zero.…Click Apply.…Now let's go down to Level 1.…
Following an overview of the basics, Eric provides specific instructions on modeling different types of families: foundation, framing, annotation, and truss families. He'll show how to perform 3D extrusions and build in flexibility with parameters, as well as create formulas, array parameters, and lookup tables.
