Creating a line-based family
- [Instructor] In this lesson, we're going to create a family that behaves as if you were drawing a line. It's aptly called a line-based family. Basically, when you draw a line, you pick the first point, then you pick the second point, the result is a line. Pretty simple. How about if you do the same thing but only get a stile-and-rail wainscot, with an optional backer and a choice for maximum spacing? This is what we're going to do. So this is a stile-and-rail, so if I drag this grip back and a little bit here, it's going to adjust automatically to reflect the rails. If I want to, I can change my maximum spacing, maybe to something smaller, like two foot six, hit Apply, and it's going to change that spacing. So what we're going to do is create a few different families. But first we have to start with creating the actual line-based family. So to get started, in Revit, under Families, let's go New.
